i dont have to worry about customers...still are have stupid

spent half of the last half of me workday sweeping and tidying and generally finding makework coz warehouse misplaced a thousand plastic spacers i need to make touch screens

i spent the other half of me last half of day dealing with warehouse demanding touch  screens coz the work floor is running out

got spacers? no? well i cant fucking make the screens then can i.... just how many of you lot are going to come here and whine without my spacers?

anyhoo... the whole shop will probably grind to a halt tomorow coz a lil slide of plastic barely worth mentioning is missing (cant skip it tho...it makes the space between the glass and the touch screen)

That’s one of the risks with “just in time” manufacturing. If one of the parts isn’t delivered on time, the process can grind to a halt.

I spent the better part of two weeks sweeping a warehouse because of a shut down. They said there weren’t any outstanding orders, but I suspected something else was going on.

I legitimately can no longer tell if their stupid ideas are coming about due to their stupid assumptions, or in (logical) cognizance of greater stupidities they haven’t shared with me ... or if they have made me too stupid to tell whether my ideas are even dumber.

Unshared Greater Stupidities and Cognitive D umbassonance are contagious, I know I are stupider now then I were before customers.

2 weeks of sweeping would drive me mad

you’d think they’d at least keep cheap thingies like spacers we need for everything properly overstocked.... but nope

then again a couple weeks ago we ran out of screws we need for all the things

and a bit before that we ran out of grinders and had to cannibalize fully assembled machines that shared parts to make new ones for priority orders

so i dont know why im surprised

Us: K

Customer, Us: *takes machine apart to un-filth*

Customer: we’re going to need new service access

Us: K

Customer: through our stuff that we had a contractor do

Us: K, can you attach this thing to what your contractor did

Customer: no, because there’s a thing in the way, couldn’t you tell from the picture with a guy holding his hand

Us: what if it’s a smaller thing and also why is that thing in the way - it is literally useless

Customer: smaller thing is not okay and also its whole kind of thing is not okay what’s wrong with you, we want to be able to take this thing apart the hard way

Also customer: what if hatch on the bottom

Us: there is no possible way to make that seal and also WTF

Customer: don’t see the problem here lol

Us: what if we do this (front access add-on)

Other us: WHAT no it will be too hard to do stuff, so go back to the first thing with access on the side except now replace everything

Me: Side R dumb. Customor rite

Us: what if better thing

Me: Better thing is good, I can make easy and stronk

Other us: is it stronk enough

Customer: ZOMG heavy we want to do other thing with that thing .

Us: No.

Customer: Yes.

Us: No, we have reasoning. Also we can do unrelated thing, but need measurements

I was mad about it. Then my uncle stepped in and set me straight. He reminded me that there are plenty of people who are paid to sweep all the time. As an operator who was sweeping, they were still paying me operator rates. The sweepers were still making sweeper rates. He made it clear that I should keep a smile on my face and my mouth shut.

It’s terrifying that this is so completely relatable, despite being in a completely different field .

I started out writing it simplified for anonymity and relatability, but simplifying it kind of helps highlight how bad it is, and I had stylistically gone Full Dumb during the first sentence.

My customers, who happen to be the salespeople who work for my company, seem to want to fight and argue all day. It’s tough to remember that they’re trying to do their job, which pays my paycheck.

I’ve tempered my combative instinct by reminding myself of something I like to call Raylan’s Rule:

is... tho...to be fair to them we are currently switching to a new system and the building is getting an overhaul....so its chaos

and they still look like fucking geniuses compared to planning

buildings getting over hauled , warehouse is trying to get a new system up and running, half our staff are holiday workers

plans in highest workload ever.... its actually going to drop off when all the regulars are back and the warehouse is sorted

My sales department are currently engaged in trying to sell an item that may require lube to fit into its suggested location. I am trying to draw it there while mentioning that a smaller item would work. I am familiar with the ur-customer problem.

I’ve been on the wrong side of “the customer is an idiot” argument at a previous job. Our company was purchased by a French conglomerate and we were somewhat pushed to buy some French-made equipment even though the company didn’t have a big presence in the US. The equipment was a new design and rather complex, unlike the old, rather crude US-made stuff we were used to (and used to neglecting when it came to maintenance). There were specific maintenance intervals that had to be adhered to to maintain the warranty , and in a cost-saving measure, our boss told maintenance to ignore them and treat the new equipment like we treated the old stuff (neglect, basically).

To absolutely nobody’s surprise, the unit failed just like the manufacturer had predicted that it would if the maintenance wasn’t done. This one piece of equipment was worth well over a quarter million dollars, and there it sat at the shop for months on end whilst we waited for parts. And idiot boss was threatening lawsuits, trying to get this covered as a warranty claim. On top of that, he tried to get the maintenance supervisor to dummy up some records to make it look like we performed the scheduled maintenance. What an absolute and complete clusterfuck, and 100% preventable. Never was I happier to be laid off from a job. It was the Peter Principle in action, with people that had no business flipping burgers running the largest station in the company's system. Unreal.
